A deceptively simple art-song, set to music on a poem by the poet and christian monk David Maria Turoldo: a call and an invocation to react to our times scarred by materialism and loss of authenticity. Composed for Giuseppe Di Bella by composer, guitarist and visual artist Marco De Biasi, who was inspired by Giuseppe's own songs and voice in 'Sette Arcangeli' (almendramusic.bandcamp.com/album/sette-arcangeli).

Ora invece la terra
si fa sempre più orrenda:
il tempo è malato
i fanciulli non giocano più
le ragazze non hanno
più occhi
che splendono a sera.
E anche gli amori
non si cantano più,
le speranze non hanno più voce,
i morti doppiamente morti
al freddo di queste liturgie:
ognuno torna alla sua casa
sempre più solo.
Tempo è di tornare poveri
per ritrovare il sapore del pane,
per reggere alla luce del sole
per varcare sereni la notte
e cantare la sete della cerva.
E la gente, l’umile gente
abbia ancora chi l’ascolta,
e trovino udienza le preghiere.
E non chiedere nulla.

[ENGLISH]

Now however the earth
gets ever more horrid:
the time is diseased
children no longer play
girls have no eyes
shining at eve
anymore.
And loves too
no longer loves have songs,
no longer hopes have a voice,
doubly dead die the dead
chilling in these frozen liturgies:
everybody heads back to their place
forever more alone.
The time is now to be poor again
and regain the savour of bread,
and stand up in the sunlight
and in peace overcome the night
as the thirst of the doe we sing.
And may the people, these humble people
have their voices heard,
and prayers may find ear.
And beg no more.
